As a native of Detroit, Barbara Madgy Cohn has a passion for art, Detroit, and libraries. She has worked as a registered nurse, has a B.A. in art history, and has been a docent at the Detroit Institute of Arts since 2008. She created the "Discover the Wonders of the Detroit Public Library: An Art and Architectural Tour" and continues to serve as the director of the tour program. Patrice Rafail Merritt has served as a professional librarian and library fundraiser for over thirty-five years. During her tenure as executive director of the Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation, she supported and implemented the tour program and continues to serve as a docent for library tours.

Incredible! I have lived nearly my whole adult life in the Detroit metro area and never visited the main branch of the Detroit Public Library on Woodward Avenue. Not only was I totally blown away when my husband and I did a tour of this amazing building, but I then HAD to buy this book, which is a recent publication. It is chock full of the beautiful art and architectural treasures of the library, with many color and black and white photo plates and detailed explanations. What a treasure and an excellent reminder of what we experienced on the tour. A lovely publication! If you like historical art and architecture, you'll enjoy this book even if you aren't from Detroit.
A great book, in part by one of the two authors met, Ms. Merritt, the former head Librarian. Every Detroit citizen who has walked through the Detroit Public Library Main Branch will know this book is the perfect companion, like having that Library’s architecture right in hand.One great example of Detroit !

It is illustrated with many color images as well as great historical photos showing the building under construction. For those who have visited the Library, you won't realize how much you've missed until you read this wonderful book.
