Economics 3d Edition on DVD is an easy way to learn a particular relevant subject in todays world. The only reason that I didn't give it five stars is the DVD was done about ten years ago. While most of the material is still relevant I would have enjoyed hearing what he thought of the crash of 08/09 and the subsequent recovery.

This video series was crucial in my preparation for the 0911 Praxis test. Having a limited background it economics, I was able to have a starting point of understanding of this subject and its complexities. Thanks for making this available. It has been on the market for several years and could use some revising.Ken

great introductory course. in a lectures format, but it's unnoticeable, the quality is just as any audio books.engaging voice and delivery. covers all the basics. interesting. engaging examples.

Great Professor

Though I was already familiar with most of the concepts, I took this course primarily as a refresher and to improve my economics terminology vocabulary. The course achieved exactly what I was looking for, so I was not disappointed. That being said, this course needs to be updated. Most of the Great Courses that I have taken so far are fairly timeless—e.g., the history of World War I has not changed much in the last five years. While the basic concepts presented in this course are timeless, most of the statistics and some of the concepts were badly out-of-date. This course was recorded before the start of the Great Recession, so the economic data presented is nearly a decade old and fails to include one of the largest economic disturbances of the last hundred years. It would have been very helpful to hear the professor's point-of-view on the events leading up to the Great Recession and how the economy has recovered since then. As an example of how the course is out-of-date, there is section in the course where the professor talks about how the last several recessions had been relatively mild—obviously, that has changed. The out-of-date aspect of the course was particularly noticeable in the last two lectures, which focused on the "current" economic growth of international markets. As a side note, the professor gained a lot of credibility during one of the lectures when he discussed the then-current housing bubble and expressed his fears that the bubble might burst in a terrible way, as it actually did just a short while afterwards. The course covers microeconomic concepts such as supply and demand as well as macroeconomic concepts such as the role of the Federal Reserve. The course is generally apolitical often presenting both the liberal and conservative view of the same economic issue. The primary goal of the course is to make the listener begin thinking like an economist, and I believe the course makes good strides toward this goal. This course is not for you if you are looking for current economic information. If, however, you are looking for a course with a broad overview that does a good job of teaching terminology and putting concepts into context, then this is a great course. The professor is clear and intelligent and organizes the material in a logical and concise manner. The professor ties concepts together between lectures and builds on lessons. There is little to criticize, and much to learn, except for the glaring "out-of-date" label that should be plastered on the front cover.

This audio book is amazing. Despite the seemingly dry topic, Timothy Taylor's voice, delivery and style keep me engaged throughout my commute. Each segment about matches one leg of my commute, about 30 minutes. The material is broken up quite nicely. The most amazing part of the material is the comparison of micro and macro economics.I took macroeconomics a couple decades ago in college, but I'm currently looking for higher government positions and many of them require 24 credit hours of finance, accounting and/or economics. As such, I thought I might be able to use this audio book to help me study up for a CLEP test and reduce the number of courses I need to add to my academic history of a BA in sociology and the AUC master's in Cultural Anthropology.Having studied macroeconomics before, I mistakenly assumed Timothy was talking about macro as he discussed a range of national topics like welfare, public health, minimum wage, etc., because I related macro to national things as guessed that micro was more corporate and personal finance. However, when he began talking about macro - supply and demand in the aggregate, inflation, trade deficit, he gave a comparison of the two disciplines. I found this comparison to be distinctly enlightening. The material is presented in plain English and he works to avoid jargon. This is something I'm a little disappointed with as I wanted to be sure I understand the unique vocabulary related to this field. However, the material is quite easy to understand even and especially for someone like me with nearly no knowledge of economy theory.

With such a massive topic it’s not always the most interesting listen. It’s a very complete and wide ranging review but it simply lacked any great thoughts or mind expanding ideas. For a beginning student, it’s very good.

My daughter and I used this series for her high school Economics requirement. It is an excellent series. Within the 36 lectures, both microeconomics and macroeconomics are covered. The professor is knowledgeable and presents the lessons in a manner that is easily followed. The guide book gives a brief synopsis of each lesson with questions to consider and recommended reading for additional study. I highly recommend this for any age above the Jr. High School level, including adults who want to know more on this topic.
