It's comprehensive in that it covers many different scenarios, some of which you may not have encountered. The pictures and images are all.excellent quality. The quality of each chapter, however, is inconsistent. Some chapters are well detailed in the technical approach, whereas others just say "take out the graft and fix it." If you have the luxury of time, I think it's a good starting point - but Current Therapy is going to be more detailed (although that book, too, has some weak chapters).If you're not preparing for the boards, I think it's a perfect book for vascular residents and general surgery residents.

This compact, portable laminated pamphlet contains delicate drawings of common plants and trees that were traditionally used for medicinal usage. It is easy to use, with simple, yet detailed, descriptions of the plant, a note on its habitat and a brief line on it's medicinal usage. This is a nice reference for anyone interested in early remedies or simply interested in possible medicinal usage of common, widespread plants.

A great, super light weight and durable information packet. I'm a light "doomsday prepper" with mainly a bag and minimal resources to get me started, should I ever need to. This was perfect for my bag and I know if I ever need it, it will be in my bag and I'll be able to reference it with little effort. Very simplistic yet detailed and great for beginners like myself.

Very cool pocket guide. We added it to our camping stuff and plan on using it for educational scavenger hunts. The descriptions are good, I like that it is durable. This is not a big in-depth know everything about the plant guide since it's made for "pockets" but would serve as a good quick reference when needed. I like it.

Very good job of describing the plant and it's medical uses. The only reason I did not give it a full fives stars is that I would rather have actual photos rather than the color drawings. Yes the drawings are good, but nothing beats a good photo. They have photos on the cover why not in the rest of the pamphlet?

I ordered this for my husband to put in his "go bag". As a former Marine, he is very critical of anything produced that doesn't accurately help the user or is what he considers a fluff product. He really likes this! It is small and compact and laminated so as to be waterproof. Clear language and good pictures make this perfect for identifying the plants.

I bought the Medical Plants and Edible Plants editions. I think these are a nice size to throw in a Bug Out Bag if you don’t want to carry the extra weight of a larger field guide for double checking plant identification. Plus in a survival situation, the laminated paper could be a fire starter if necessary.

I bought two and gave one away. Since then everyone is trying to steal my regaining pamphlet. You just can't trust freaking preppers!

Purchased a few different versions of these for my hunting pack just as a lightweight throw in in case of emergency. The lamination should make ti last quite a while and all have very good relevant info.

In his bestselling book A Deadly Wander, Matt Richtel tells Reggie’s story while also taking a look at human attention and how distractions can affect the brain.It didn’t take me very long to get hooked, and I wasn’t surprised to see that this book had become a best seller. The writing is never dry and Richtel’s focus on Reggie, the subsequent investigation, the court case, and the rest of people involved provided a strong narrative backbone. This narrative structure is what first hooked me and kept me reading.While Richtel intercuts this story with a look at the science behind attention and distraction, I felt myself itching to get back to Reggie’s story. This isn’t to say the other sections are bad. They were very interesting and provided a lot of insight into the human brain that I had not heard before. I would be interested in reading a separate book that expands on the information provided here even though it didn’t quite ‘grip’ me in the same way that the narrative element did.A Deadly Wandering shows the potential deadliness behind cell phone use while driving and does an excellent job showing how it is different than other possible distractions such as changing the radio station or eating a burger. While I do usually make a point not to use my phone while driving, it is easy to think that a quick check after a ‘chirp’ isn’t that big of deal. After reading this book I am much more conscious about how I interact with my phone while driving.While the ending of the book gets a little bit repetitive, it’s hard to fault it too much given the strength of the information it provides. I’m not usually one to recommend a book for ‘everyone,’ but this one is certainly very close. Given how commonplace texting while driving seems to be, any driver with a cell phone may find this book enlightening. At the very least I would love to see an abbreviated version of this published to use in driver education courses.5/5 StarsI received this book free from TLC Book Tours. Hard to put down.My first take on A Deadly Wandering came even before I read it, after seeing Richtel's interview on BookTV, and it was this: people who text/talk while driving may not be able to help it! Their brains are compelling them to do it. So I dropped a lot of judgment surrounding that issue, which was really helpful. That's all the more reason why we need to be aware of how complex the issues are, and try to remove some of the societal pressures to answer the phone or respond to texts. For example, here's one idea: do not call or text your family members asking "when are you going to be home?" You could kill somebody this way. Plus, why do you need to know? How urgent is it - ever - to know when somebody is arriving? I think there's a lot we can do even when we're not on the road to save those who are. Those texting drivers are talking to someone! That person is an enabler. Like the texting drivers, the enablers are also taken over by their brains. We may need to lower our judgment and increase our understanding about how that happens, in order to save more lives.I was surprised by the research suggesting that hands-free phones may be just as dangerous as handheld phones, because your *mind* is off the road. Although I shouldn't have been surprised, because I've noticed this even in myself when I'm trying to have a conversation while driving (I don't very often and now I won't at all). Talking on the phone while driving may rise to the level of alcohol as a disabler, and texting becomes worse than driving drunk. One study cited in Wandering says that after you hit "send" on a text, your mind may not see the road for another 15-18 seconds. This is a lot of time if you're traveling at 60mph without seeing the road in front of you.As for the storylines in this book, I was fascinated by all the characters. Richtel really digs in deep and presents each of them in remarkable detail. That goes for Reggie and other characters who make up the main thread of the story, as well as for the neuroscientists who are featured as experts on the research.Sorry if I spent more time in this review talking about my conclusions than the actual story. Just to say that it really got me thinking, and has also given me permission to say no - I'm not available for any kind of distraction while I'm driving. I've even cancelled my satellite radio because I found it too distracting most of the time, making choices between hundreds of channels. This is a very important book, and fascinating to read. Whatever you think this book might be about, it's about so much more. It's about all of us, it's about telling the truth, and it's about being more aware of ourselves.

This was the required text for my History of Fashion class in college and even the professor acknowledged that this is not a good book but it covers the time frame that is covered in class. I consider this a must read for anyone that likes to bet on horse races. There is no magic way to win money at the track but Beyer is the expert on speed ratings, and wether you are an occasional player or love going to the races regularly, you must have this book. It's very educational on how to separate contenders from pretenders.

Reading Andrew Beyer is at once informative and entertaining, which anything on handicapping has no excuse not being. While his first book introduced speed figures, and his second mixed the application of them with an appreciation of other aspects of handicapping, this book revisits the holistic approach - always emphasizing speed figures - in an era when everyone has access to more information than ever, and many even know how to use it. What makes reading Beyer so fascinating is that one is made to see, vividly, the endless testing and working out of new ideas and approaches, in the stories - one might call them lessons - he recounts (the chapter on turf betting is a classic of sports writing). Beyer, like Bill James, is a scientist, and thinks like one, to the edification of all who choose not to keep recycling the same old bromides, and making the same old mistakes. People like Beyer and Steve Davidowitz are largely responsible for the ever-escalating arms race which parimutuel bettors are fighting amongst themselves. It's a wonderful game, but if you don't want to get left behind, better read this.

I like the overall book and his stories are funny. I have been playing for awhile and wanted to see what other people who have written books were saying. The outline that he lays down is a solid strategy to use. A great insight into the toughest sport I've ever played that's for sure...

oldie but goodie

While probably not the best handicapping book even from the Beyer set, this is one of the more entertaining handicapping books around. You should read his earlier stuff first to see how he evolved as a handicapper to incorporate some ideas such as pace, trip, and form cycles, where earlier he had largely dismissed those. Where I spent a lot of time taking notes from other handicapping books, I spent more time turning pages and just enjoying a good read here.
